Who is Bradford Bereavement Support (BBS)?
BBS was established in 1984 by a group of concerned volunteers and has developed into a team of trained volunteer counsellors who offer individual bereavement counselling. They have all undergone rigorous training in counselling skills and bereavement training.
Before working with clients, these counsellors have been carefully assessed. They receive continuing training and regular supervision by a qualified professional counsellor/supervisor.
The organisation is non-profit making, has a voluntary Trustee committee and is entirely dependent upon a range of grants and donations.

How to refer to our service
We can only make appointments for those who have been personally affected by bereavement. We require that clients self-refer themselves to our service. They can do this by calling our phone line on 01274 619522, our phones lines are open Monday – Friday 9:30 – 1:30.
Our administration team will take some information from the client and book them in for an assessment with our qualified assessor, which is free of charge.
All assessments are undertaken by telephone. The client will receive a call at a pre agreed time, the call will come from a private number. An assessment takes approximately 30 minutes. Following the assessment if counselling is suitable, they will go onto our waiting list to see a counsellor which is approximately an 8 – 12 week waiting time.
Once we have identified a counsellor, the client will contacted by them. The sessions are 50 - 60 minutes in length and will be at the same time and day each week, this is agreed between the counsellor and client. We offer 12 counselling sessions which are free of charge. Due to Covid-19, we are currently unable to offer face to face counselling, therefore all counselling sessions are completed by telephone or online, this can be agreed by the counsellor and client.
